[ARCHIVED] Delinquent tax advertisement published this weekend

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (April 16, 2024) – Carteret County will publish a list of approximately 2,400 real property owners with delinquent 2023 tax bills in the local newspaper on Sunday, April 21, 2024, as required by state law. The list will include property owners' names and the principal amount owed. Payments made after March 25, 2024, may be included. To determine the current amount due on any delinquent real estate or personal tax bill, visit the tax office website and click "Pay Tax Bill Online."

The purpose of the advertisement is to notify taxpayers of their 2023 tax obligation. Delinquent taxpayers are subject to having their North Carolina income tax refund and/or lottery winnings seized to pay off their County property taxes.

The tax administrator is also empowered to garnish funds, levy (seize and sell) personal property, and foreclose on real property to satisfy unpaid taxes. These actions may be taken after the delinquent date and are not contingent on the advertisement of delinquent taxes.

There are several ways to pay your tax bill:

  • Online: Visit carteretcountytax.com/taxes for a credit card, debit card, eCheck, or PayPal payment.
  • Phone: Dial toll-free 1-888-544-9433 for credit card payment.
  • Mail: Mail a check or money order and payment stub using the return envelope that accompanied the tax bill.
  • In person: Pay at the Tax Administration office located at the Carteret County Government Administration building, 302 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, NC weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Cash, credit card, debit card, money order, or check payments are accepted. Make checks payable to the County of Carteret. A credit or debit convenience fee is charged.

For questions or to make payment arrangements, please contact the Tax Administration office at 252-728-8485 or visit carteretcountync.gov/154/Tax-Office
