CARTERET COUNTY, NC – Carteret County is excited to
introduce Nick Wilson as the County’s new Public
Information Officer (PIO). Wilson began work at the
County Administration Office on Monday, June 7, 2021.
In this role, Wilson will be responsible for overseeing and
facilitating the strategic planning and processes for
County-wide communications that support the County’s
mission. In addition to working with County employees, he
will serve as the point-of-contact for all media and public
relations needs relating to Carteret County Government.
“Communicating clearly and effectively with our
community is a top priority and we are excited to have
Nick on board promoting the good work of our County staff,
services, and programs,” said County Manager Tommy
Burns.
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing from East Carolina University
and has over 14 years of professional communications experience working with municipal governments and
public service organizations. Prior to accepting this position, Wilson was serving as the Public Information
Officer with the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office under the leadership of Sheriff Asa Buck.

exciting opportunity to be working for the County in this new role,” Wilson said. “Transparency and being a
trusted source of clear, timely and engaging communication about County services will be the top priority with
this position. I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside the County’s incredible leadership team and commend
the County Commissioners for their foresight in funding this position.”
Wilson is a 14-year resident of Carteret County and resides in the Beaufort area with his wife Caroline.
