[ARCHIVED] Carteret County Tax Administration office issues final notice for unpaid 2023 property taxes

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (February 1, 2024) The Carteret County Tax Administration office has mailed final notices to 10,755 taxpayers with outstanding 2023 property tax bills. Failure to pay in full by Feb. 29, 2024, will result in the advertisement of the lien on all unpaid real property, as required by state law.  Additionally, all unpaid property taxes are subject to collection enforcement actions such as bank attachment, wage garnishment, attachment of North Carolina income tax refunds, levy of personal property, and foreclosure.

Carteret County Tax Administrator, Jessica Taylor, encourages all delinquent taxpayers to make payment prior to Feb. 29, 2024 to avoid collection actions. Taxpayers experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the Carteret County Tax Administration office to discuss payment options.

There are several ways to pay your tax bill:

  • Online: Visit https://carteretcountytax.com/taxes for a credit card, debit card, eCheck, or PayPal payment.
  • Phone: Dial toll-free 1-888-544-9433 for credit card payment.
  • Mail: Mail a check or money order and payment stub using the return envelope that accompanied the tax bill.
  • In person: Pay at the Tax Administration’s office located at the Carteret County Government Administration building, 302 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, NC weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Cash, credit card, debit card, money order, or check payments are accepted. Make checks payable to the County of Carteret. A credit or debit convenience fee is charged.

For more information on payment options, contact the Tax Administrator’s office at (252) 728-8485 or visit https://www.carteretcountync.gov/154/Tax-Office.
