[ARCHIVED] Final Day to Pay Property Taxes Without Interest is Jan. 5

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (December 29, 2025) – Carteret County property owners are reminded that Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, is the final day to pay 2025 property taxes without interest.

Payments must be made or postmarked by Jan. 5 to avoid interest charges. Payments received after that date will incur a 2 percent interest charge for January, with an additional 0.75 percent added each month until the balance is paid in full.

Property tax bills were mailed in September to the property owners of record. New property owners are encouraged to verify whether payment has already been made by using the online tax bill lookup tool or by contacting the Tax Administration Office at (252) 728-8485.

Taxes may be paid using the following methods:

  • Online at carteretcountync.gov/154/Tax-Office using a credit card, debit card, eCheck, or PayPal
  • By phone at 1-888-544-9433 using a credit card
  • By mail with a check or money order payable to “County of Carteret,” including the payment stub and postmarked by Jan. 5
  • In person at the Tax Administration Office at 302 Courthouse Square in Beaufort or the Western Office at 701 Cedar Point Boulevard in Cedar Point, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For faster in-person service, taxpayers are encouraged to bring a copy of their tax bill or have their property key available. Cash, check, money order, credit card, and debit card payments are accepted; a convenience fee applies to card transactions.

Property owners who anticipate difficulty paying their taxes in full by the deadline should contact the Tax Administration Office as soon as possible to discuss payment plan options.

The Tax Administration Office will be closed on Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. For more information, visit carteretcountync.gov or contact the Tax Administration Office at (252) 728-8485.
