[ARCHIVED] Tax listing period opens for Carteret County property owners

Tax Listing Notice

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (January 3, 2024) – As the new year begins, property owners in Carteret County are reminded to file changes and list their properties with the Carteret County Tax Administrator’s office. According to North Carolina law, businesses and individuals are required to submit property listings between January 1 and January 31, 2024.

While preprinted listing forms for existing accounts were mailed in the last week of December 2023, it is important to note that the failure to receive a listing form does not exempt property owners from the requirement to file.  Anyone who has acquired personal property during 2023 should file a listing form by January 31, 2024.  Property owners are encouraged to read all instructions contained on their listing form to ensure they have listed appropriately and provided all necessary documentation to avoid penalty.

Property owners have the flexibility to file listings through various channels, including mailing preprinted forms to the County's processing center at PO Box 1046, Mount Airy, NC 27030-1046; in-person visits to the Carteret County Tax Administrator's Office at 302 Courthouse Square in Beaufort or the Western Office facilities at 701 Cedar Point Blvd. in Cedar Point; and online submissions. Online listing is highly recommended, accessible via https://www.eListing.SouthData.com or the County website at https://www.carteretcountync.gov/154/Tax-Office.

Business Personal Property owners showing good cause can apply for a filing extension online or send a written request to the Tax Administrator by January 31, 2024, with the deadline for extensions set for April 15. Failing to list business or individual personal property by January 31, 2024, unless an extension is granted, will result in a 10% late listing penalty.

While real estate property owners are not obligated to file real property listings, they are encouraged to report any new improvements or deletions to ensure accurate taxation.

For more information, contact the Tax Administrator’s office at (252) 728-8485 or visit https://www.carteretcountync.gov/154/Tax-Office.

The Tax Administrator’s Office will be closed on January 15 for a scheduled holiday.
