CARTERET COUNTY, NC – Carteret County attorney and Wheatly Law Group managing partner Claud “Rob” Wheatly, III reached a milestone this summer when he completed 50 years of practicing law. In those 50 years, Wheatly, III has spent over 30 years serving as the county attorney.

To honor his half century in the legal profession, Carteret County recognized the long-time county attorney by presenting him with a service plaque during Monday night’s Board of Commissioners meeting. County Commissioners did the honors of presenting him with the service plaque and pointed out Wheatly’s loyalty to Carteret County, thanked him for serving as the county’s trusted legal counsel and for providing a solid foundation for decades of county projects and growth.

Wheatly, III, a lifelong resident of Beaufort, graduated from Beaufort High School in 1965. He graduated from the The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina in 1969 and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of captain before he was honorably discharged. Wheatly, Jr. He is the third generation of his family to practice law in Carteret County. His grandfather, Claud R. Wheatly, Sr., began the practice of law in 1908 and practiced until his untimely death in 1947. Wheatly, Sr. was joined by his son, Wheatly, Jr., who practiced from 1941 until his retirement in 2011. Wheatly, III has practiced law with the Wheatly Law Group since 1972. He specializes in real property, estate planning, business corporate, environmental law and civil trial practice in all State and Federal Courts.
