CARTERET COUNTY HEALTH SERVICES
Welcome to the Carteret County Health Department! The mission of the Carteret County Health Department, through our responsive and professional staff, is to preserve, promote and protect the health of our community by preventing disease, protecting the environment and promoting healthy living. The Health Department serves as a vital hub for diverse medical needs while acting as a safety net provider for the community. Residents have access to a wide array of services under one roof:
- Pregnancy Care: Complete prenatal care, including routine appointments, lab services, and other services. We also provide Care Management support throughout the pregnancy to help you achieve the healthiest possible outcome.
- Primary Care: Adult health services such as physicals, sick care, immunizations, including Hepatitis C treatment, cancer screenings, and chronic condition screenings and management.
- Women’s Health: Routine examinations, dedicated counseling, and prescriptions for various birth control methods; breast and cervical cancer screening.
- Women, Infants, and Children’s (WIC) Program: Assistance program providing nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals.
- Preventive Protection: STI screening and treatment, childhood vaccines, and essential adult immunizations.
- Family Planning: Counseling, birth control, lab services, pregnancy testing, NC Regional Vasectomy program
- Children’s Health: Vaccines for children, Care Management for At-Risk Children (CMARC), WIC
- Dental Care: Exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride, dental sealants, fillings, extractions, pulpotomies and crowns. Dental care is offered through a mobile unit that visits county schools. Children ages 0-20 years of aged are served along with pregnant women of any age.
- Health Education: Tobacco-free living, diabetes prevention, active living, healthy eating, substance abuse prevention & education
- Environmental Health: Permitting & inspections of wastewater systems, private drinking water & irrigation wells, regulated food and lodging establishments, public pools and tattoo artists; investigation of food borne illness outbreaks, well water sampling & analysis
- Animal Control Services: Follow-up on animal bite reports, low-cost rabies vaccination clinics, enforces NC and county animal control laws, prevents transmission of vector-borne diseases through education and awareness
- Post Overdose Response Team (PORT): Certified Peer Support Specialists who offer resources and support to individuals and aid their path to recovery from substances.
The Carteret County Health Department believes that quality healthcare should be accessible to all members of the community. The Health Department accepts a wide range of insurance plans, including: Medicaid (all plans), Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna. Uninsured? The Carteret County Health Department offers a sliding fee scale based on your income and household size to ensure services remain affordable for everyone.
