CARTERET COUNTY, NC – Thanks to the efforts of the Carteret County Veterans Service Officers,
thousands of Carteret County veterans are receiving the federal benefits they’ve earned through their military
service.
During the year 2020, Carteret County Veterans Services set a new-veterans benefits record by garnering
$87.9M in benefit payments which are paid directly to qualifying veterans. That accomplishment exceeds the
previous year’s total by 5.3 percent.
“County Veterans Service Officers serve as liaisons between veterans and their families in obtaining benefits
from the Department of Veterans Affairs,” said Brenda DuBose, Director of Veterans Services of Carteret
County. “Our staff’s success is a result of strong collaboration and customer experience across the department
– with Veterans Services Officers and Administrative Staff leading the way.”
Federal veterans benefits, available to everyone honorably discharged from the U.S. Military, include
compensation and pension payments, disability benefits, medical care, educational and vocational
rehabilitation programs, housing, and many others.
“The role of Veterans Services Officers is critical to the ability to effectively reach and assist Carteret County
veterans and their families,” said Tommy Burns, Carteret County Manager. “Besides improving the lives of
families, the dollars veterans benefits bring into the county improve our communities as well. We appreciate
the great work our Veterans Services Officers provide to our county veterans and congratulate them on their
steadily increasing benefit payment numbers.”
Based on the latest report from U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are currently 8,415 veterans living
in Carteret County.
