CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (July 23, 2025) – The Carteret County Board of Elections has extended the candidate filing period for the Town of Cedar Point Commissioner race. The board voted unanimously to extend the deadline during its organizational meeting on Tuesday, July 22.
Under state law, the board may extend filing when not enough candidates file for available seats. At the July 18 deadline, not all Cedar Point commissioner seats had candidates.
The five-day extension applies only to the Cedar Point Commissioner contest. Filing will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 24, and close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 30. Candidates must file in person at the Board of Elections office, located at 1702 Live Oak Street, Suite 200, in Beaufort. Filing is available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
