Criminal Investigations

The Carteret County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division, commonly known as CID, provides professional investigative services to Carteret County. CID is responsible for the investigation of felony and misdemeanor crimes, and may also conduct sensitive or special interest investigations as directed by the sheriff. These cases usually demand significantly more time than a patrol deputy can devote to a single case, and often require specialized training, experience, and expertise.  CID detectives primarily investigate felony-level crimes to include homicides, sexual assault, crimes against children, burglaries, armed robbery, fraud, computer crimes, and kidnapping. Additionally, CID investigators are responsible for tracking missing persons, juvenile offenders, runaways, registered sex offenders living in Carteret County and provide criminal investigative support to the patrol division.

CID consists of a major who oversees administration, a lieutenant who works general crimes, a sergeant, a full-time evidence technician, and three general crimes investigators.
