National Recovery Month

National Recovery Month (Recovery Month) is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life.

The goals of National Recovery Month are to:

  • Promote the benefits of prevention and recovery for mental and substance use disorders.
  • Celebrate people in recovery
  • Recognize the contributions of treatment and service providers
  • Promote the message that recovery in all forms are possible
