Special Assistance In-Home Services

This program provides an alternative to placement in an Adult Care Home (ACH) for individuals who could live at home safely with additional support services and income. The program provides a cash supplement to help low-income individuals who are at risk of entering an ACH and who would like to remain at home. The program can help with living expenses such as food, shelter, clothing, and other daily necessities. The checks are sent monthly to eligible individuals living in a private living arrangement. The amount of the check is based on income and need in conjunction with a comprehensive assessment.

SA-IH recipients must be eligible for Medicaid. Individuals with low income are potentially eligible if they are 65 years of age or older, or if they are under age 65 and at least age 18, and are disabled according to Social Security disability standards.

To apply for assistance, please call Carteret County DSS at (252) 728-3181. An Adult Services social worker will assist you with completing an application.
